You can also help protect Snake Valley by providing comment during the State Engineer’s hearing for Snake Valley and on the Bureau of Land Management’s Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the 250+ mile long pipeline that will suck our water down to the Las Vegas area. Check back here for dates that this important public comment will be accepted (probably in the fall of 2010).

Snake Valley is threatened with the possibility that it will never be the same again. Southern Nevada Water Authority is planning to pump massive amounts of groundwater from the basin every year, so much that many experts believe that springs will dry up, water dependent plants will die, and eventually animals will be displaced (see the Water Section for more details).

In order to keep living the way we have for decades, we will have to fight. Legal costs are likely to be very high, at the moment estimated to exceed $300,000.
